Conductance

Conductance is the opposite of resistance

Large conductance = Large current Small conductance = Small current

Conductance G is measured in Siemens which has the symbol

To calculate the conductance of a component we would use

or we could use

So why bother with conductance when we have resistance?

One reason we bother with it is because it’s on the specification so we need to know it!

It does have some uses. If you think of a resistor as a conductor instead then the equation to work out the combined conductance of a combination is a bit easier. It avoids using the fiddly equation for resistors in parallel.
